Ramandolo

"Ramandolo" is a Protected Designation of Origin that identifies a specific type of white wine, produced in Friuli Venezia Giulia.


Grapes

Ramandolo is produced in purity, using exclusively grapes of the Verduzzo vine.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

At first glance, "Ramandolo" is a pleasant golden yellow colour. The aroma is intense and characteristic, releasing a scent of acacia, mountain honey and ripe fruit, such as plums, apricots. The palate is pleasantly sweet and velvety, full-bodied and with good total acidity. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 14.00% vol.


Grape production area

The production area extends in the eastern part of Friuli, at the foot of the Bernadia river. An area of medium and high hills, characterized by high rainfall and significant temperature fluctuations, especially in the period preceding the harvest.


Specificity and historical notes

The wine inherits the name "Ramandolo" from a small village that is part of the municipality of Nimis. The origin of the name is rather discussed. There are those who read an adaptation of the adjective "Roman" and those who, instead, read "novel", with a clear reference to the concept of neolatine and therefore Friulian. The link between wine and territory is now indissoluble and has led, over time, to a valuable refinement of the techniques of viticulture and winemaking.
