Colline Novaresi

"Colline Novaresi" is a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) that identifies a wide range of white, red and rosé wines, some with the indication of grape variety, such as Nebbiolo, Uva Rara, Barbera, Vespolina and Croatina.

Grapes

The white "Colline Novaresi" is produced in purity, with only grapes from Erbaluce. Rosso, Rosato and Novello, on the other hand, have a base of Nebbiolo, equal to at least 50% of the total, alongside which (up to 50%) other non-aromatic red grapes, suitable for cultivation in Piemonte, contribute. Finally, when the label indicates the vine, this must represent 85% of the total and, even in these cases, the remainder may come from other varieties identified as said.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 11% vol.) has a straw yellow appearance and has a fragrant and delicate aroma and a slightly bitter and sometimes lively taste. The red (11% vol.) is ruby in colour, with different intensity; it has an intense aroma and a harmonious and full flavour. In the Novello variant (11% vol.) the tonality is lighter, until it fades into pink; the aroma is fruity while the taste becomes more intense. Rosato and Rosato novello (11% vol.), on the other hand, are pink in colour, more or less intense, with an intense aroma and a harmonious, full flavour. Finally, the wines with an indication of the vine variety have absolutely unique characteristics, the result of their origin, which can be carefully consulted in the specification.

Grape production area

Colline Novaresi wines are produced in a large part of Piemonte, between the river Sesia and the Ticino.

Specificity and historical notes

The fame of the Colline Novaresi wines has an ancient tradition. Already Pliny the Elder, in Roman times, praised the qualities and abundance.
