Colli Perugini

Colli Perugini is a Protected Designation of Origin that identifies the following types of wines: white, red, spumante, vin santo and novello. In addition, it is also part of the production with the indication of the vine: Chardonnay, Grechetto, Pinot Grigio, Trebbiano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese.


Grapes

Colli Perugini Bianco, as well as vin santo, come from the Trebbiano toscano grape variety, which must represent 50% (minimum) of the vineyards from which the grapes are obtained for vinification. In spumante, on the other hand, at least 80% of the grapes come from Grechetto, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, used alone or in combination. For red, rosé and novello, the base is made up of a minimum of 50% Sangiovese. Then there are the wines with the indication of vine variety, which are produced with 85% of grapes from the reference vine. In all these cases, for the remaining part, other similarly coloured berry varieties suitable for cultivation in Umbria may be used (for white and vin santo, a maximum ceiling of Malvasia, still at 10%, is also prescribed).


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

Colli Perugini red wines are distinguished by their bright ruby colour, with purple reflections and nuances towards garnet (when aged). The nose has floral aromas with notes of cherries and raspberries, sweet spices and chocolate. They have a good structure and an equally good acidity content. White wines, on the other hand, have a characteristic straw yellow colour, rich in greenish reflections, accompanied by aromas of jasmine, white peach and apple. The taste is warm and soft. Then there are a whole series of peculiarities, punctually traceable in the specification, linked to the reference vine. Characteristics that are very marked in wines with indication of grape variety on the label.


Grape production area

The production area is a limited territory, almost all included in the province of Perugia and partly in the province of Terni.
