Verduno Pelaverga

The Protected Designation of Origin "Verduno Pelaverga" or "Verduno", identifies a particular type of red wine, possibly produced with mention of vineyard.

Grapes

"Verduno Pelaverga" wines are obtained from grapes of the " vitigno Pelaverga piccolo", which must represent at least 85% of the vineyards from which the supply takes place. For the rest, never more than 15%, the presence of other non-aromatic red grapes suitable for cultivation in Piedmont is allowed.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

"Verduno Pelaverga" is a wine with a ruby red colour, can be more or less intense and is veined with cherry or violet reflections. The olfactory notes it releases give an intense and fragrant sensation, with fruity elements and a spicy characterization. On the palate it is quite fresh, dry, velvety and harmonious. Finally, it has a minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 11% vol.

Grape production area

The production area is rather limited and peculiar, involving the territories of only three municipalities, west of Alba.

Specificity and historical notes

The "Pelaverga piccolo" is one of the most characteristic and above all rare vineyards of Piemonte. Its place of choice is, without doubt, the town of Verduno, although it is partly cultivated outside those borders. Only a few years ago it began to be vinified in purity, with excellent results, while before it was necessarily joined to other local varieties.
