Terre Aquilane

The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) "Terre Aquilane" or "Terre de L'Aquila" includes white wines (also in the sparkling and passito types), red wines (also in the sparkling, passito and novello types), rosé wines (also in the sparkling type).


Grapes

The wines with the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) "Terre Aquilane" or "Terre de L'Aquila" must be obtained from vines suitable for cultivation in Abruzzo. In case of specification of vine, this must represent a minimum share of 85% of the grapes, while the remaining 15% can be produced from other varieties suitable for Abruzzo. In the case of specification of two varieties, however, all grapes must come from the same and each can not be present for a share of less than 15%.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 11% vol.), even sparkling, is straw yellow in colour, with an intense fruity aroma and a typical, dry, savoury taste. On the other hand, the passito type (16%) has a colour tending towards amber with ageing. The red (11% vol.), even sparkling, is ruby in color with a fruity, complex and harmonious taste, typical. The new version (11.50% vol.) has violet reflections and a fresh and velvety taste. Passito (16% vol.), on the other hand, has a garnet colour, with an intense aroma and a sweet and velvety flavour. The rosé (10.50% vol.), even sparkling, has a more or less intense pink colour with an intense, persistent aroma and a typical dry flavour. Grape production area

The production area includes the Abruzzo mountains of the chain central-southern Apennines.


Specificity and historical notes
