Terre Alfieri

"Terre Alfieri" Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) wines are produced in only two types: Arneis and Nebbiolo. There are also possible productions with mention of vineyard.


Grapes

The two types of wine "Terre Alfieri" are monovitigno productions, which therefore provide for a clear prevalence, within the grapes used for the production, of those from the vine mentioned. Specifically, the required share is 85%, both in the case of Arneis and Nebbiolo. The remaining 15% can be obtained from other non-aromatic white or black grapes suitable for cultivation in Piemonte.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

"Terre Alfieri Arnei" (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 11.5% vol.) has a straw yellow colour, which may be more or less intense and may be embellished with golden reflections; the aroma is delicate and fragrant, sometimes floral; the taste is dry, enriched by a pleasantly bitterish note. Terre Alfieri Nebbiolo (12.5% vol.), on the other hand, is ruby red and with ageing tends to garnet; it has a characteristic and delicate aroma, sometimes with a hint of violet, which is accompanied by a parched, full and harmonious flavour. The same organoleptic characteristics are maintained in the productions with mention of the vineyard, which have only a slightly higher alcohol content, equal to 12% vol. for Arneis and 13% vol. for Nebbiolo.


Grape production area

The production area interests in part both the province of Cuneo and that of Asti.


Specificity and historical notes

The Arneis grape variety is part of the history and tradition of the area where "Terre Alfieri" wines are produced. Cultivated for centuries in small quantities, it has been saved from disappearance thanks to the stubbornness of local winemakers.
