Narni

PGI "Narni" wines are produced in the white (also sparkling and passito), red (also passito and novello) and rosé (also novello) variants.

Grapes

"Narni" wines must be made from grapes coming from vineyards composed exclusively of vines suitable for cultivation in Umbria. For the specification of the vine it is necessary that a minimum share of 85% of the grapes used in winemaking comes from the same, while the remaining 15% can be obtained from other varieties suitable for cultivation in the region.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The White (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 10% vol), even sparkling, is straw yellow in color, with a characteristic aroma and taste from dry to sweet, fresh, fruity. The Passito version (15% vol) differs for the color tending to amber with aging, intense odor and savory taste. The Rosso (10,00% vol) is ruby red in colour, more or less intense, with delicate vinous hints and a taste that ranges from dry to sweet, savoury and full-bodied. The Novello variant (11% vol) differs in flavour from dry to sweet, while the Passito variant (15% vol) has a garnet-like colour and a harmonious, velvety and sweet taste. The rosé wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 10% vol), even new (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 11% vol. ), has a more or less intense pink colour, a delicate winy aroma and a dry to sweet, harmonious and fresh flavour.

Grape production area

The production area is located in the southern part of Umbria, on the border with Lazio.

Specificity and historical notes

Narni was once a Roman settlement with the name of Nequinum. In 300 B. C. the consul Quinto Apuleio Pansa had it besieged for economic interests, but it took more than a year to conquer it, because of the impervious location of the village. After the final conquest of the city, the Roman colony took the name of Narnia.
