Friuli Grave

The Protected Designation of Origin "Friuli Grave" includes a wide and varied range of white, red and rosé wines, also produced in sparkling, sparkling, new and superior variants. Some wines also have the label of the prevailing vine: “Chardonnay”, “Pinot bianco”, “Pinot grigio”, “Riesling”, “Sauvignon”, “Friulano”, “Traminer aromatico, “Verduzzo friulano”, “Cabernet franc”, “Cabernet sauvignon”, “Merlot”, “Pinot nero” and “Refosco” dal “peduncolo rosso”.

Grapes

The vines that can be included on the label are those used for the production of all the wines of the “Friuli Grave” designation. In the basic versions of “Bianco”, “Rosso”, “Rosato” and “Novello”, there may also be several vines, without specification of minimum dimensions. On the other hand, when the vine is indicated on the label, this must represent at least 85% of the wine used for making wine. In the case of Cabernet the rule is partially waived, because the percentage can be reached by using jointly “Cabernet franc”, “Cabernet sauvignon” and “Carmenere”.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The Friuli Grave wines have varied characteristics but with common traits. White wines (10.5 -11.5% vol.), for example, are fresh, fruity and sapid, with good acidity. The reds (11-11.5% vol.) are aromatic and fragrant, with the tendency to become more structured with aging. In the sparkling variants it is possible to appreciate a subtle and persistent perlage, associated with fresh, balanced and fruity scents, accompanied by a slightly acid taste. Spumante wines stand out for their fine and very persistent perlage and for their complex and intense aromas; they are fine and well-structured on the palate. Finally, the Superiore variants are identified by a higher structure, while the Riserva variants are identified by their complex aromas. For the organoleptic details of each wine, it is possible to refer to the regulations.
