Colline Saluzzesi

The wines of the Protected Designation of Origin "Colline Saluzzesi" are produced in the following types: red, Barbera, Chatus, Pelaverga, Pelaverga rosato, Quagliano and Quagliano spumante.

Grapes

The red wine "Colline Saluzzesi" is produced with grapes from vineyards composed, for at least 60%, of vines Barbera, Chatus, Nebbiolo, Pelaverga (alone or together). The remaining portion, however, can be completed with grapes from different varieties, provided they are not aromatic and suitable for cultivation in Piemonte. In wines with an indication of grape variety, however, this must be the exclusive source of grapes used.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The basic version of the red wine "Colline Saluzzesi" has a pleasant ruby red aspect, combined with a very characteristic and intense fruity and vinous aroma. The taste is fresh, dry, fruity and equally characteristic. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 11.5% vol. The productions that show the label of the vine, however, are quite heterogeneous, with peculiarities that each inherits from its origin. For further information, we recommend consulting the specification.

Grape production area

The production area is entirely within the province of Cuneo and coincides with a foothill area characterised by soils with little or no limestone and good drainage.

Specificity and historical notes

Viticulture in the "Colline Saluzzesi" area was already practiced in pre-Roman times, by the Greeks and the Celts. To witness its intense development, however, we must wait until 1996, the year of recognition of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).
