Colli Martani

The Protected Designation of Origin "Colli Martani", identifies white, red and spumante, as well as productions with the following grape varieties: Trebbiano, Grechetto, Grechetto di Todi, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling, Vernaccia Nera (or Vernaccia).

Grapes

"Colli Martani" Bianco is produced with 50% of Trebbiano Toscano, together with other non-aromatic white grapes, which can be grown in Umbria. For the Malvasia bianca di Candia and Malvasia bianca lunga vines there is a maximum ceiling of 10% (alone or in combination). A similar scheme for spumante, which however starts from a 50% of Grechetto, Chardonnay and/or Pinot Noir, and for red wine, which has a 50% of Sangiovese. In wines with an indication of grape variety, however, this must represent at least 85% of the total. In all types, then, for the rest of the quota, may contribute other grape varieties of similar color, suitable for cultivation in Umbria.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 11% vol) has a straw yellow aspect with greenish reflections; the aroma is vinous, delicate and fruity and goes well with a savoury, lively, fresh and harmonious taste. The Spumante variant, on the other hand, is embellished with fine and persistent perlage and has a fruity perfume and a dry and harmonious flavour. The red (11,50% vol. ), on the other hand, has a lively ruby hue, more or less intense, with a characteristic, vinous and delicate aroma and a savoury and dry taste, with a good body and slightly tannic. The productions with the indication of grape variety are enriched with organoleptic characteristics typical of their origin, precisely specified in the specification. On all types, finally, the aging in cask can bring the relative hints.

Grape production area

The production area includes, even in part, thirteen Umbrian municipalities, on the slopes of the Martani Mountains.
