Colli Euganei

The Protected Designation of Origin "Colli Euganei" includes both white wines (also in the spumante version) and red wines (also riserva). These are flanked by numerous productions with indication of grape variety on the label, some also with reserve variant: Garganega, Tai, Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay, Manzoni Bianco, Pinello Frizzante, Pinello Spumante, Serprino Frizzante, Serprino Spumante, Merlot, Cabernet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carménère, Raboso, Moscato, Moscato spumante.


Grapes

Colli Euganei white wine is produced with grapes from vineyards composed of Garganega (at least 30%), Tai and/or Sauvignon vines (at least 30%) as well as white and/or yellow Moscato (between 5% and 10%). In the red, however, are used Merlot (between 40% and 80%), Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc and Cabernet carménère (between 20% and 60%), in addition to Raboso Piave and/or Raboso veronese (up to 10%). When the label indicates the vine, it must be present for at least 85% of the grapes used. This percentage rises to 90% in the case of Moscato. In all types, for the rest, other similarly coloured grape varieties may be used, suitable for cultivation in the province of Padova.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The red wines of the Colli Euganei denomination are structured, balanced and soft and have a ruby colour with variable intensity, with violet (or garnet) reflections with ageing. The aroma is fragrant and characteristic and can be enhanced by hints of red fruits, cherry, ripe fruit, spicy notes, fresh or dried grass and tobacco. White wines, on the other hand, are characterized by floral, fruit and fresh bread crust aromas. Grape production area

The production area is that of the Euganean Hills, in the province of Padova, a hilly area with a temperate climate.


Specificity and historical notes

The Colli Euganei denomination has a history that dates back to 1969 and is now also enhanced by the presence of the Colli Euganei Wine Route.
