Cinque Terre e Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà

"Cinque Terre", also known as "Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà" is a Protected Designation of Origin that includes white wines and Passiti wines of Ligurian production. The product specification also allows the possibility of indicating subareas: Costa de Sera, Costa de Campu, Costa da Posa and Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà


Grapes

In the production of Cinque Terre wines, at least 40% of the grapes used come from vineyards made up of Bosco vines. Albarola and Vermentino may also be used, but alone or together they must not exceed 40%. In addition, for the remaining part, other complementary grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the province of La Spezia may be used, up to a maximum of 20%.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The basic version of the Cinque Terre (11% vol.) is a bright straw yellow colour. The smell is intense and clean, fine and persistent, associated with a characteristic, pleasant and savoury flavour. The Costa de Sera, Costa de Campu and Costa da Posa variants also have similar organoleptic characteristics, but are distinguished by a slightly higher alcohol content, equal to 11.5% vol., and a more composite aroma. The Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà (17% vol.), also in the Riserva version, is golden yellow with amber reflections. It has a pleasant and intense aroma of Passito wine, accompanied by a scent of honey. On the palate it has good structure and good body, sweet and harmonious, able to stay in the mouth for a long time, with an almond aftertaste.


Grape production area

The production area partly coincides with the geographical area of the Cinque Terre, in eastern Liguria, in the province of La Spezia. The vineyards are cultivated in hilly territory, no higher than 900 meters above sea level, and are mainly terraced and modest in size.


Specificity and historical notes

The first traces of viticulture in the” Cinque Terre” area date back to the 6th century BC and they have Greek origins. A strong development, then, occurred in the Middle Ages (XI century), with the birth of the Municipalities.
