Aleatico di Gradoli

The Protected Designation of Origin "Aleatico di Gradoli" includes four types of wine: Base, Liquoroso, Liquoroso con Riserva and Passito.

Grapes

"Aleatico di Gradoli" wines are produced with at least 95% Aleatico grapes; other similarly coloured grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lazio Region contribute to the production, up to a maximum of 5%.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The Aleatico di Gradoli base (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 12% vol.) is garnet red in color, the smell is finely aromatic and characteristic, the flavor is fresh, soft, velvety and sweet, the Liquoroso instead (17.5% vol.) has a garnet red color, with violet reflections, the smell is aromatic, sweet and characteristic, the flavor is full, sweet and harmonious, the Liquoroso Riserva (17.5% vol.) is instead garnet red, tending towards orange with ageing, the smell is aromatic, characteristic of ageing in oak casks, the flavour is full, sweet, slightly tannic and pleasant; the Passito instead (16% vol.) has a ruby red colour, with possible violet reflections, the aroma is fruity and aromatic, the flavour is sweet and of ripe fruit.

Grape production area

The production area of Aleatico di Gradoli is located in northern Lazio, in an area of medium and high hills, on the slopes of the volcanic district Vulsino. The nature of the soil is therefore influenced by the activity of the volcano, which determines a wide pedological variety.

Specificity and historical notes

The tradition of cultivation of the Aleatico di Gradoli has its roots in the Etruscan period; the strong historical link with the territory, the geographical and pedological diversity of the area, contribute to creating a product of quality and value.
