Valcalepio

The protected designation of origin "Valcalepio" is reserved for the following types of wine: white, red and Moscato passito.

Grapes

The red is composed of 25% to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% to 75% Merlot. The white, on the other hand, contains from 55% to 80% of Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay, absolute or combined, and from 20% to 45% of the "Pinot Grigio". On the other hand, Moscato Passito is made up of 100% Moscato di Scanzo and Moscato, also in this case absolute or combined.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The reds (vol. 11.5% for the base and 12.5% for the Riserva) have a more or less intense ruby colour, which tends towards garnet in the Riserva version; the aroma is intense, pleasant, sometimes ethereal and the flavour is dry, full-bodied, sometimes velvety. The white wine (vol 11.5%), on the other hand, has a straw yellow colour, a delicate and characteristic bouquet and a dry and harmonious flavour. The Moscato passito version (vol. 17%) is characterized by a ruby red color that can tend to cherry, with a delicate and intense aroma and a sweet and pleasant taste, with an almond aftertaste.

Grape production area

The production area of 'Valcalepio' is hilly, characterized by a wide geological variety that determines a rich and changing pedology.

Specificity and historical notes

The link with the wine tradition and the territory is deep and rooted. Already Pliny, in Roman times, told the copious development of the vine in the area.
