Veneto Orientale

The protected geographical indication "Eastern Veneto" is reserved for white wines (also sparkling), red wines (also sparkling and new), and rosé wines (also sparkling).


Grapes

The "Eastern Veneto" Protected Geographical Indication PGIs must be obtained from vines suitable for cultivation in the provinces of Venezia and Treviso. The specification of the vine is provided for if at least 85% of the grapes coming from the same are used in the blend, while the remaining 15% can be produced from another vine suitable for cultivation in the provinces of Venice and Treviso. The specification of the vine is also provided for the sparkling type and, only for the red berry, for the novello. Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The young white wines of the "Eastern Veneto" Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) have a colour ranging from pale yellow to straw yellow with more or less intense greenish reflections. Depending on the production process, the aromas may have floral hints that go towards the fruity. The reds are characterized by different shades of red, depending on the maturity of the grapes, from ruby to garnet. Depending on the diversity of the soil, fruity or herbaceous notes may be more pronounced. The taste is balanced, savory, sometimes tannic, with a good acid balance. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 9% vol. for white, sparkling white, sparkling rosé and sparkling rosé, 9.50% vol. for red and sparkling red, 11% vol. for new wine. Grape production area

The production area is located in the eastern part of the Po Valley, from the hilly area of the province of Treviso to the territories bordering the Adriatic Sea of the province of Venezia.


Specificity and historical notes

The wine-growing activity in the area, already present since Roman times, was greatly developed by the Benedictine monks, which was entrusted by the bishops of Concordia Sagittaria, in the Middle Ages, the Summaga Abbey.
