Valdadige o Etschtaler

The protected designation of origin "Valdadige" or "Etschtaler" corresponds to the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosato, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Schiava and Frizzante.


Grapes

At least 20% of the white wine is made up of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Riesling Italico, Muller Thurgau and Chardonnay, either absolute or combined; for the difference Trebbiano Toscano, Nosiola, Sauvignon and Garganega. For Rosso and Rosato, on the other hand, there must be Enantio (Lambrusco with jagged leaves) and Schiave (also subvarieties and synonyms), used either absolutely or jointly, for at least 50%; for the difference Merlot, Pinot Noir, Lagrein, Teroldego, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are prescribed. For Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Grigio, at least 85% of the grapes of the corresponding vine must be present and grapes of similarly coloured berry varieties suitable for cultivation in the respective provinces may be added, up to a maximum of 15%. Schiava, on the other hand, is composed of at least 85% Schiava Grossa, Schiava Gentile and Schiava Grigia, either absolute or combined, as well as grapes with similarly colored berries, suitable for cultivation as above.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

"Valdadige" wines all have a minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of between 10.5% and 11% vol. The white wines have a characteristic straw yellow colour; the aroma is vinous, pleasant and fruity and the taste is harmonious, fresh, full and sometimes semi-sweet wine. The sparkling versions have a subtle and persistent froth. The reds, on the other hand, have a ruby red colour, sometimes garnet; the aroma is vinous and pleasant; the flavour is harmonious, sometimes sweet and moderately acidic. The Rosato version has a more or less intense pink colour; the aroma is vinous and delicate and the taste is soft and sometimes sweet. Grape production area

The production area of 'Valdadige' is located on a hillside, characterised by the presence of morainic deposits belonging to the morainic amphitheatre of the Adige river, in some municipalities in the provinces of Trento, Bolzano and Verona.


Specificity and historical notes

The wine tradition goes back to Roman times, creating a deep and deep-rooted bond with the territory.
