Trentino

The protected designation of origin "Trentino" identifies a wide range of wines, including both basic production of white, red and rosé (kretzer), without further specifications, and types with an indication of one or two varieties, both the Vino Santo. A precise list of all the wines can be found in the specification.


Grapes

Four types of vine are allowed for the production of Trento wines: Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Nero and Meunier. The grapes in question may be present individually or in combination.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white (11% vol.) is straw-coloured, with a pleasant, fine aroma and a dry, full, harmonious and characteristic flavour. The red (11.5% vol.) has an intense ruby red colour, accompanied by a pleasant, ethereal aroma and a dry, full, harmonious and slightly tannic flavour. In the Rosato (11% vol.), however, the color is pink or light ruby; the smell is delicate and pleasant; the flavor is fresh, soft and harmonious. In the variants with indication of one or two grape varieties, as well as in the productions resulting from a particular vinification, emerge peculiar organoleptic characteristics, for the knowledge of which please refer to the specification.


Grape production area

The production area covers 72 municipalities in the "provincia di Trento".


Specificity and historical notes

The most important testimonies of Trentino's viticulture date back to the ancient Bronze Age.
