Pentro

The Protected Designation of Origin "Pentro" or "Pentro di Isernia" identifies four types of wine: white, red, red riserva and rosé.


Grapes

The grapes used for the vinification of Pentro di Isernia Bianco must come from vineyards composed of Falanghina (80%) and Trebbiano Toscano (from 15% to 20%), which can be joined by others, white berry, suitable for cultivation in Molise (maximum 5%). For the red, on the other hand, between 75% and 80% of Montepulciano and between 20% and 25% of Tintilla are required. Also in this case, other grape varieties (maximum 5%) can be added, provided they are black-berried, non-aromatic and can be cultivated in Molise.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

In the Pentro di Isernia Bianco (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 10,50% vol) you can appreciate a pale straw yellow hue, enlivened by greenish reflections, the smell is delicate, characteristic and fragrant, the flavor is dry, intense, aromatic and very fresh. The Rosso (11% vol) has a ruby red colour, more or less intense, and exudes a pleasant and characteristic aroma, combined with a dry, harmonious, velvety and slightly tannic flavour. In the Riserva variant (12,50% vol), the appearance is enriched with violet reflections; the aroma is vinous, intense, pleasant and characteristic; the taste is dry, harmonious and soft. Finally, the Rosato (11% vol) is a more or less intense rose, with a pleasant and delicate aroma, combined with a dry, harmonious, fresh and slightly fruity flavour.


Grape production area

The production area is located within the province of Isernia, in an area where the foothills and hills coexist.


Specificity and historical notes

Molise viticulture has ancient origins and the whole region is scattered with traces that attest to it. A first rationalization of the information about the wines produced, however, is due to Raffaele Pepe.
