Loazzolo

The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) "Loazzolo" identifies a sweet white wine.

Grapes

The vineyards that supply the grapes with the "Loazzolo" grapes are made from exclusively white Muscat grapes.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

To the eye, the "Loazzolo" wine has a brilliant golden yellow hue. Its aroma is complex and intense, enhanced by hints of musk, vanilla and candied fruit. This olfactory richness is associated with a sweet and characteristic taste, with a slight aroma of Muscat. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 15.5% vol.

Grape production area

Loazzolo is a town of just 400 inhabitants, in the province of Asti, located on the hill ridge that separates the valley of Bormida and that of Belbo. The area is on a high hill, with a dry and windy climate, characterized by pleasant cool nights.

Specificity and historical notes

In the Bormida Valley passito wines have always been very popular. Traditionally, however, their production was intended for domestic use only. Among this wide range of sweet wines, "Loazzolo" stands out, which owes its prestige above all to the winemaking techniques used to make it, which are essentially two: over-ripening in the plant and drying in a drying room on racks or in crates.
