Langhe

The Protected Designation of Origin "Langhe", identifies a wide range of wines. Some are produced in the basic version: Red, Passito Red, Rosé, White and Passito White. Others are made with the following grape varieties: Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Dolcetto (also new), Freisa (also sparkling), Merlot, Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir, Arneis (also passito), Chardonnay, Favorita, Nascetta, Riesling, Rossese Bianco and Sauvignon. Finally, it is possible to indicate the Nascetta sub-area of the municipality of Novello (or Nas-cëtta of the municipality of Novello).

Grapes

For White and Red wines, without further specifications, it is envisaged that only grapes from vines suitable for cultivation in Piedmont and not aromatic will be used. Rosato, on the other hand, requires a minimum of 60% of Barbera, Dolcetto or Nebbiolo. A similar percentage is also required for the Passito Bianco, but it refers to the Arneis, Chardonnay, Nascetta or Riesling vines. On the other hand, for the Passito Rosso, the prescribed varieties (at least 85%) are again Barbera, Dolcetto or Nebbiolo. Finally, all single-varietal productions require 85% of the corresponding type of grapes.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 10.5% vol.) is straw-coloured, with variable intensity depending on the production; the aroma is delicate, fine and intense, sometimes enriched with hints of wood; the taste is delicate and harmonious, sometimes lively. In the Rosso (11% vol.) there is a ruby red hue that tends to garnet, combined with a characteristic, vinous and intense aroma and a dry, full-bodied and sometimes lively taste. Finally, the rosé (11.5% vol.) has a color ranging from light ruby to pink, the smell is characteristic, soft and delicate, the palate is velvety and harmonious, dry or sweet. In the Langhe denomination there are many single-variety wines or wines made in a particular way; in these cases, the organoleptic characteristics are enriched by unique peculiarities, for the knowledge of which please refer to the specification.
