Dolcetto d’Alba

The Protected Designation of Origin " Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba " or "Diano d'Alba" includes the homonymous red wines, both in the basic version and in the version with the Superiore indication. Both types can be accompanied by specific geographical indications and vineyard indications.

Grapes

The types of grapes with which these wines can be produced are exclusively those from the Dolcetto vine (100%).

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The "Dolcetto Diano d'Alba", also in the versions with geographical indication and mention of vineyard, has a ruby red colour, with a characteristic and fruity smell to which can be added hints of wood, if aging takes place in barrels of this material. The taste is dry, harmonious and almond. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 12.00% vol., while it increases to 12.50% vol. for the Superiore variant

Grape production area

The production area coincides exclusively with the territory of the municipality of Diano d'Alba, in the province of Cuneo. An area that falls within the so-called "Langhe piemontesi".

Specificity and historical notes

The connection between Diano and the Dolcetto vine is historic and deep-rooted, so much so that, as early as 1988, it led to the exact identification of the best areas for cultivation: 76 areas that in Piedmontese dialect are called Söri.
