delle Venezie

The Protected Geographical Indication "delle Venezie" includes 3 types of wine: white, also in the sparkling type; red, also in the sparkling and novello types; rosé, also in the sparkling type.

Grapes

The "delle Venezie" PGI wines must be obtained from grapes coming from vines allowed to be cultivated in the province of Trento, in all the provinces of Veneto and in all the provinces of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Only specific varieties are allowed for each area, with the consequent indication of the percentages of ampelographic composition. As a general rule, 85% of the grapes must come from the above-mentioned vine, the remainder from other similar varieties.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The wines of the PGI "delle Venezie", in the various colours and types, represent the specificity of the environments in which the grapes are produced. The wide variety of grape varieties makes available to consumers a wide range of products with special characteristics from an analytical and organoleptic point of view. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 9.00% vol. for white, red and rosé wines, even in the sparkling varieties, while it is 11.00% vol. for the red novello variety.

Grape production area

The production area of "delle Venezie" PGI wines extends in the north-east of the Italian peninsula, within the regions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto and in the autonomous province of Trento. This territory is protected to the north by the Alps and the Dolomites, while to the south it borders on the Adriatic Sea and the river Po.

Specificity and historical notes

The wines of the PGI "delle Venezie" owe their name to "Tre Venezie" or "Le Venezie", the name by which this interregional territory, whose history is closely conncted to the Republic of Venice and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, is still known today. The area was already famous for the production of wine since the Roman Empire, at that time the seat of the X Regio di Augusto.
