Corti Benedettine del Padovano

The Protected Designation of Origin "Corti Benedettine del Padovano" includes a wide range of wines, white, red and passito, and others with indication of grape variety: Merlot, Cabernet, Cabernet sauvignon, Raboso, Refosco dal peduncolo rosso, Pinot bianco, Pinot grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Tai and Moscato spumante. Some of these are also produced with variants, sparkling, spumante and riserva.

Grapes

The White is produced with grapes from vineyards made up of at least 50% of Tocai Friulano grapes while for the Red must be used a share between 60% and 70% of Merlot and 10% (minimum) of Raboso Piave and/or Veronese. The production of Passito, on the other hand, requires 70% of grapes from Moscato Giallo, with a higher percentage, equal to 95%, also for Spumante. Finally, in all wines with an indication of the grape variety, this represents 85% of the grapes. For all types, to complete the missing quota, can be used similar berry varieties, suitable for cultivation in the province of Padova and Venezia.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The red wines stand out for their softness and structure and, with ageing, they acquire roundness and flavour. With the refinement the colour also changes, from ruby to garnet, with reflections that turn from purplish to brown. In addition, young reds have complex aromas of red fruits with hints of vanilla. The ageing ones, on the other hand, smell of very ripe red fruit and jam, with spicy notes (from liquorice to black pepper). The complexity of the aromas also characterizes the whites, which when young have a good structure and excellent flavor, with a fresh and lively finish. The aging in wood, then, enhances the notes of dried and ripe fruit, which the vine of origin can enrich with sweet and vanilla notes.

Grape production area

The production area coincides with a large flat area between the provinces of Padova and Venezia.

Specificity and historical notes

The historical roots of the wines of the denomination are lost in the legend of Antenore, Trojan hero, founder of Padova, where it is said that he imported a "magic plant", identified with the vine.
