Colli Tortonesi

The "Colli Tortonesi" Protected Designation of Origin identifies white, red and rosé wines. The red, in addition to the basic version, is also produced in the variants sparkling, novello, Barbera, Barbera reserve, Barbera Superiore, Dolcetto and Dolcetto novello and Croatina. White wines, on the other hand, include: sparkling, Cortese, Cortese riserva, Cortese frizzante, Cortese spumante, Favorita, Timorasso, Timorasso riserva and Moscato. Finally, the rosés are Chiaretto and Chiaretto sparkling.

Grapes

For the basic variants of white, red and rosé wines, the regulations do not indicate specific quotas in the composition of the vineyards but generally prescribe the vines considered suitable, which can all contribute to the production. More precise, however, is the indication relating to all those wines that have in the label the specification of the vine. In these cases, the vine in question must represent at least 85% of the total number of grapes. An exception is the Cortese and Moscato wines, where the percentage rises to 90% and 100% respectively.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

"Colli Tortonesi" wines have peculiarities that allow to distinguish them easily and that are widely described in the specification. The variants with indication of grape variety, then, are enriched with all those organoleptic notes that are proper to their origins. In general, within the typology of red wines, we can find a common thread that is represented by the pleasant ruby color and smell, which is always characteristic and winy. More delicate and pleasing, however, are the olfactory profiles of the whites, which also share a straw-yellow colour, sometimes with greenish reflections. Rosés, on the other hand, range from pink to ruby red, with a vinous and delicate aroma.

Grape production area

The production area is located in the south-east of Piedmont and covers the territory of 30 municipalities.

Specificity and historical notes

"Colli Tortonesi" wines have a strong vocation for aging, even those belonging to the category of white wines.
