Cellatica

The "Cellatica" Protected Designation of Origin includes two types of wine: Rosso and Rosso Riserva.


Grapes

Cellatica wines are the result of a composition of different grapes. A minimum of 30% comes from the Marzemino vine and another 30% at least from Barbera. It is then used a minimum 10% of Schiava gentile and another 10% of Incrocio Terzi n.1. Finally, up to a maximum of 10% of other non-aromatic red grapes, suitable for cultivation in Lombardia, may be used.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The appearance of Cellatica red wines is characterized by a brilliant ruby red color. Its aroma is vinous and typical and is accompanied by a savoury and dry taste, enhanced by a slightly bitter aftertaste. The alcoholic strength is 11. 50% vol. which rises to 12% vol. in the variant Reserve.


Grape production area

The production area falls into a hilly territory, with rather steep slopes, located west of Brescia and coincides, in part, with Franciacorta.


Specificity and historical notes

The wine-growing tradition, in the territory of Cellatica, has an important role in safeguarding the territory and the harmony of the landscape. Its roots are ancient and a first mention can be found in the works of Andrea Bacci who, speaking of the presence of the vine in northern Italy, mentions the vines of Cellatica, as an example of quality production.
