The PDO "Cacc'e Mitte di Lucera" indicates a type of red wine.


Grapes

The Cacc'e Mmitte di Lucera was created from the combination of different grapes. For a portion ranging between 35% and 60% it is produced from grapes of the grape variety Uva di Troia, (locally renamed Sumarello). A further 25% to 35% is made with Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Malvasia nera di Brindisi, used alone or together. Finally, Trebbiano Toscano, Bombino bianco and Malvasia bianca (and/or Bianca lunga) grapes are also added and, alone or in combination, must represent from 15% to 30%.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

Cacc'e Mmitte di Lucera is an extremely well-balanced red wine, with a ruby hue, more or less intense, depending on the production. The smell is characteristic and intense, while the taste, dry and full, is distinctive for its harmony and for the presence of a peculiar aftertaste. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 11.5% vol.


Grape production area

The production area of this specific red wine is rather limited and has a strong identity. It coincides with the northern area of Puglia, an area with clayey or clayey and loamy soils, rich in nutrients. The climate is Mediterranean, with mild winters, short springs, rather hot and long summers and rainy autumns.


Specificity and historical notes

The perfect interaction between geographical and human elements is the secret of Cacc'e Mmitte di Lucera. The area has an ancient wine-growing history, as evidenced by numerous documents and works of art, dating back mainly to the period of Magna Graecia.
