Aprilia

The "Aprilia" Protected Designation of Origin includes four types of wine: White, Red, Rosé and Merlot.

Grapes

At least 50% of the white wine is made up of Trebbiano Toscano, with 5% to 35% of Chardonnay. The red and rosé wines have at least 50% Sangiovese and 5% to 25% Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. The Merlot is composed of no less than 85% Merlot. For each of these wines, grapes of similarly coloured berry varieties may be used to produce up to a maximum of 15%.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white wine (minimum total alcholic strength by volume 11% vol.) has a straw yellow colour with slight greenish reflections, the aroma is intense with floral notes, the taste is dry, intense and balanced. The red, on the other hand (12% vol. ), has a ruby red colour with garnet reflections as it ages, the aroma is intense with hints of ripe fruit, the taste is dry, harmonious and full-bodied. The rosé (11. 5% vol. ) has a light pink colour, with a delicate and floral smell, and a fresh, dry and savoury flavour. Finally, the Merlot (12.5% vol.) has an intense ruby red colour, tending towards garnet as it ages, the aroma is vinous and pleasant, the flavour is dry and full-bodied.

Grape production area

The production area of "Aprilia" wines is situated in the flat areas between the Agro Romano and the Agro Pontino and partly in the volcanic district called "Vulcano Laziale";. The soils, where the cultivation takes place, are characterized by fluvial-lacustrine, wind and pyroclastic deposits..

Specificity and historical notes

The tradition of wine growing in the production area of Aprilia is linked above all to the work of reclaiming the Pontine marshes, which began in the Renaissance and continued for many years to follow. The historical link with the production area and the environmental variability, due to the geological diversity of the areas concerned, make Aprilia a product of undoubted quality.
